The Prickly Pink Collection is a love letter to Tucson’s desert sunsets—bold, blazing, and impossible to forget. Inspired by sun-soaked days among saguaros and the quiet magic of the desert, I turned to the land itself for both color and story.
The pinkish hues in this collection come from cochineal, a tiny insect that thrives on prickly pear cacti. I ground the bugs by hand using a mortar and pestle, then simmered the deep crimson powder for hours to create a rich, rosy dye straight from nature’s palette.
Each piece of fabric was carefully prepared: scoured, bathed in oak tannins, and mordanted with alum and soda ash to ensure the colors would hold. Using a cactus stencil I designed on the computer, I applied melted beeswax in a Batik style to block out my design before dyeing. Then came the magic—tying, bundling, and dipping to create vibrant, one-of-a-kind tie-dye patterns.
My favorite moment? Unwrapping each bundle to see what surprises the dye left behind. My least favorite? Boiling out the beeswax (sticky business!). But from that labor of love, the Prickly Pink Collection was born—infused with the wild, wondrous colors of the Arizona desert.ts.

This collection starts with simple tools: a block, a carving knife, and a love for the sea. Every whale shark, manta ray, palm tree, and spiral wave is hand-carved into a soft block, then stamped in ink to bring the creatures to life. The prints are scanned and digitally colored, preserving their handmade texture and movement. The final artwork is printed on soft apparel, archival-quality paper, and accessories that celebrate slow art and salty air.
